Ben Petrula is no stranger to the Old North State.

The New Jersey native and his family used to vacation along the Outer Banks and Petrula is fond of the area and the state in general.

Why does this matter?

It matters because Petrula is now a 6-5, 321pound offensive tackle who just happens to own a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels. A 3-star prospect, Petrula, who attends St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, NJ, Petrula is rated the No. 15 prospect in New Jersey, but continues to draw more and more interest from schools.

In particular, Carolina is a program high on Petrula’s radar.

“UNC is definitely a school I have been interested in since the process began,” Petrula told THI. “I love the state of North Carolina, I have vacationed there a few times as a kid and I always loved it. My head high school coach actually told me that a coach on the UNC staff called him and said that they offered me.”

Petrula hasn’t yet been to UNC, but he’s looking forward to making a visit. Camping there this summer is certainly an option for a visit, as well. But he’d like to get to Chapel Hill sooner than that.

“I'm trying to get down there this spring,” he said.

Petrula is working hard this season on some of his mechanics, among other things.

“Right now I'm focusing on building up my frame a bit more and work of footwork and speed,” he said. “I think the best part of my game is my low pad level and hand quickness.”

In addition to UNC’s offer, Petrula has been offered by Boston College, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Syracuse, among others. He’s also received considerable interest from Wisconsin with Penn State and Maryland also showing interest.
