In Closing: A four-year starter, Turner simply got better and better in his career and as a senior led one of the best offenses in Carolina history. The Tar Heels averaged rushing for 220 yards per game and produced a 1,000-yard rusher in Elijah Hood (1,463 yards), and 486 yards per game overall. In addition, the Tar Heels averaged 40.7 point per game, as well. They scored 40 or more points 7 times, 50 or more 4 times and more than 60 once.

Turner graded out at 90 percent or above in 11 of 14 games for the 11-3 Tar Heels that won their first Coastal Division title. He anchored the line, obviously, but he was also the team’s leader. He coined the term “Got Your Back,” which was an important message that the team fully embraced after losing its opener to South Carolina and they reeled off 11 consecutive wins.
